Kids Bathroom Ideas
Being a new mother myself you start learning about kid friendly from day one. Sometimes when remodeling, especially bathrooms, you have to keep in mind that kids are going to use it and at no matter what age, most likely, they will be pretty abusive on your freshly remodeled bathroom.
Weather you are looking for easy maintenance or just to made a kid friendly atmosphere there are endless options out there. I would have to say that grout is the most frustrating part of a bathroom to keep clean and generally the older the home the more there is of it.

In The Shower
Use solid surface panels! I am not talking about one of those systems that fits over what you have for a quick fix. I am talking about something along the lines of Swanstone wall panels. They are durable and you completely remove the grout aspect.
Swanstone is considered a high performance solid surface. It is molded and is five times stronger than other cast solid surface products. It is heat and impact resistant and comes in variety of products and colors. Or, use large porcelain tiles with a rectified edge.
Many people do not what to give up the look of tile in the bathroom, but the bigger the better. Look for 12x12 tiles or even 12x24 tiles work great in a bathroom; eliminating many grout lines. There are various patterns too that can help disguise grout lines and make them appear more invisible.
Use a shower curtain rod if you have a tub rather than a shower door. A curtain can be easily washer or replaced. Also if you have very young children it can help with bath time, making the tub much more accessible.

Countertop Choices
A countertop is probably going to take the most abuse in a kids bathroom. A Quartz or Solid Surface top is your best bet. Ceasarstone, a quartz countertop manufacturer has a wide variety of colors to choose from when looking for a bathroom countertop. Quartz tops are scratch, stain, and heat resistant that require little or no maintenance.
A countertop such as Swanstone, which is a bit cheaper than a quartz top, is also a great product for a bathroom. Swanstone has a little more maintenance for scratches and stains however it is still very easy to maintain.
As I always say, “Just because you are using so called maintenance free product, that does not mean they clean themselves.” A vanity is pretty straight forward, however I would recommend if you have drawers to get the full extension hardware that is a little bit more durable and can take a little bit of extra abuse.
You also have to consider height. Over the years things seem to have gotten taller and taller. A standard height vanity is no longer 29” it has evolved to about 31”. And if you go for comfort height then you are looking at 34 ½”, which is the same height as your kitchen cabinets most likely.
There are also features these days that are strictly geared towards kids. For example a vanity with a pull out step stool at the bottom or you can install a floating vanity so you can have a movable step stool in the bathroom that can be easily tucked away when not in use.

Toilets
Toilets come in various shapes and sizes. If planning a kids bathroom you probably what to stay away from a comfort height toilet and possibly consider a round front toilet. A round front toilet has a little smaller opening, that may be more condusive to a child.
Non slip Flooring
You may also want to consider a non slip tile surface. Choose a flooring that has a rough texture and is durable. Also, consider a through body porcelain tile, this means that the color is consistent all the way through so if there is a chip or crack it is less likely to show.
Aesthetics
Do you want to make your bathroom more fun and enjoyable for your little one? Many manufacturers have come out with some creative ideas to make bath time a little more fun.
Hansgrohe has a “Alfie” a fun hand held that can be attached to any standard handheld application. It is designed to fit a child’s hand, has a Quick clean cleaning system, and has 2 spray modes, regular and soft aerated. Hansgrohe faucets also have in general an anti scald 100 degree safety stop which will also keep your little one safe
